On sunday evening our club made history when securing the first junior b county title beating St Pats in Ballingarry.
On a lovely warm evening we were eager to get playing however St Pats struggled with numbers with the possible outcome that they may not be able to field a team this was not the case and the gaem started as planned. With the game only 5 minutes old Eoin Tucker in full forward was shown a red card for an off the ball offence resulting in us playing the gaem with only 14. We battled hard and were some what wasteful with the chances we created showing some panic at times. Scores from Declan Lane and Darren Kavanagh kept us ticking along but Pats with the extra man ran at us and began to pick holes in our deference. We stood firm and the introduction of Chris hayes as a blood sub brought some clam to the game. The work rate of Michael Behan and Gerard Hanlon was to be admired in this heat with Michael Sillery and Darren Lawlor working hard in defense and attack. Senol Yamac provided great speed for counter attacks and we led 6pts to 5 as the half time whistle sounded. Stern words and calming words were spoken at half time and the lads resumed their battle, chances were not too plenty and we had to work very hard. Michael Sillery now playing in the full forward line made some probing runs while Kevin Doodey work his socks off. We hit on a quick counter but witht he goal at our mercy Declan Lane was fouled and a penalty given which Darren Kavanagh slotted home. This gave us some comfort however it was short lived with a quick point from St pats and then a high looping ball catching the full back line and goal keeper out we were now back to a point game in the latter stages. Subs again played a great role with Jack Hayes and Kieran Kavanagh to the fore scoring 3 points between them. In the end we done enough to secure a win which was greeted with great joy and delight. Damien Finnerty captain accepted the cup on behalf of the club and thanked the management team players and supports with special reference made to previous management teams. We woudl also like to thank the old stand for providing freshments for all senans gaels after the game
