Senior Championship Round 4

Two conservative wins for our senior side the first time since 2007 when we had a four point win over Na Piarsaigh. Having fallen to the same opposition in an intermediate county final only a few years ago. We started brightly getting on the score board from the boot of Richard Hayes with James Naughton and Adam Kearns causing trouble in the half forward line. In defence Darren Lawlor and Darragh Woulfe ensured that we would not give any easy score and done well to sniff out any chances. As we attacked the na piarasigh defence fouls were committed with Richard Hayes showing great accuracy. Oliver Wallace working up and down the field managed to break through and as he pulled the trigger was fouled. Penalty awarded. Darren Kavanagh stepped up and made no mistake an excellent score. The opposition battled back strongly With Maurice Fitzgerald and Stephen O Connell working hard to drive the team on. We were hit with some serious injuries with Ray O Flaherty and David Finnerty falling victim to knee injuries. We wish them well in their recovery. In saying this it showed the great team work and square we have amassed with the introduction of Seamus McSweeney and Kaleb O Connor who helped drive the team on and ensure that we would not be defeated.  We began to come under pressure with the opposition closing the gap however a long ball into our forward line fell to Oliver Wallace and he rattled the net. With the end in sight we felt comfortable and that was short lived as we conceded a penalty in the space of five minutes after scoring at the other end. Cian Walsh in goals did he best and was unlucky not to save the spot kick. With pressure mounting and a result in the balance we as a team dug deep to get two more scores from the boot of Richard Hayes with a monster point also from the boot of Darren Kavanagh. In the end we managed to run out winner secure our position in senior level for 2019 and look towards our next game against the county champions Adare on the 15th Sept. Finally, as always our support on the night was brilliant helping to cheer our men over the line and get a vital result. Thank you
